Top 5 Summer ‘21 features that Admins should watch out for

Here are top 5 features that I think will be really helpful for Admins with the Summer ‘21 release. Let’s dive in.

1. Ability to view the level of access and the reason for access on a record at the user level

With Summer ‘21, you can see the level of access a user has on a record. Access Sharing Hierarchy from the action menu. The panel will display the list of all users who have access to the Opportunity record.

Click ‘View’ against the user name to see the reason for the access in the table.

2. Ability to add Accounts as Campaign Members

This has been long wanted for non-profit organizations that use campaigns for mailing lists that includes Organizations and Individuals.

Enable Accounts as Campaign Members from Setup to activate this feature. Follow along the snapshots below to complete the setup.

From the campaign record, you can use the Add Accounts action to add the Account to the campaign. Similarly, you can use the Add to Campaign action on an Account to do the same.

3. Free In App Guidance Walkthroughs

In App Guidance is a feature that stuck with me as a key driver of adoption and better user experience. It was a paid feature(required a myTrailhead subscription) at that point in time which made me move away from recommending it for clients. With Summer ‘21, Salesforce is providing 3 In App Guidance Walkthroughs for free.

4. Set Expiration dates on Permission Set Groups (Beta)

This feature can be enabled in Set up< User Management Settings.

When you assign the Permission set using Manage Assignments, you are able to specify the expiration date and the timezone.

A combination of custom permissions and the ability to set expiration dates is a powerful feature that can be leveraged for use cases where the ability to perform an action needs to be available for a specific time period.

5. Auto add fields to custom report types

As an administrator of an org that has many custom report types, adding every custom field created to the report types is a time consuming job. With Summer ‘21, all new fields created will be readily available to use in the reports.
