What to look forward to in Summer ’22

It's time for the Salesforce Summer release! The summer release is always the heftiest one and this year Salesforce is bringing some exciting new features that are bound to make your life a little easier. Read to learn about Dynamic Related Lists, Picklist management, Analytics Home, Flow builder and debugger enhancements, and permissions.

Customize related lists directly from the Lightning App Builder

With the new Dynamic Related List you can now customize related lists directly from the Lightning App Builder without having to navigate to the page layout editor (time saver!).

In this first iteration, there is a 30 record limit to your list and you won't be able to View All, so you'll need to get creative to show the data you want to see. For instance: once you choose the list’s fields and sort order, apply filters, and give the list a descriptive name. If you know you should have more than 30 results, apply more filters to your first list and create a second list that will generate the results you're missing in the first one.

You can set up multiple related lists with different filters on the same object. For example, on the Contact record page, create one related list to see only the opportunities created in the last 30 days. Then, create a second related list to see all opportunities with an amount over $500,000.

Picklists

Picklists got a whole lot of love in this new release! If you've ever had to manage, edit, clean up, etc., you know how time consuming and ineffective that process was.

With Summer '22 you can now Get a List of Custom Picklist Fields with Inactive Values delivered to you to help you in the clean up process, because you will also now have functionality to Clean Up Inactive Picklist Values (Beta). This beta feature is available only for custom picklists with predefined values.

Contact you Account Executive to enable to ability to Bulk Manage Picklist Values (Beta) to activate, deactivate, delete, or replace multiple custom picklist values at once. No more doing this one by one!

Lastly, and a crowd favorite, is the ability to Learn Which Picklist Values Are Duplicates without having to search through your values: the error message now includes the duplicate value so that you can quickly correct it and move along:

Reports and Dashboards

If you've been following our release blogs you know I always have something on data and reports and I am super excited about what's coming in Summer '22!

Probably the most exciting new function we'll see with Summer '22 is the ability to Manage Your Reports and Dashboards in Analytics Home (Beta). The Analytics Home is where all your Salesforce analytics content is organized in a cohesive and seamless experience. In the following screenshot, Salesforce points familiar features, such as the search bar (1) and left navigation (2). Analytics Home provides a personalized experience (3) that makes it easy to find and access relevant assets. Visit the Release Notes to learn how to access the Analytics Home.

One feature I'm really looking forward to is the ability to Create Reports Based on Selected Salesforce Objects (Beta). This feature allows you to filter your report types list in the Create Report window so you only see report types that include the Salesforce Object you select. To enable this feature, contact Salesforce Support:

Edit Multiple Fields on the Report Run Page is now generally available. This feature was introduced in the last release and it is a great time saver! It allows you to make inline changes in multiple rows or columns in your report, and then save all the changes with a single click. Along with that, Find the Best Report Type for New Reports is also now generally available. With it,  you can quickly access recently used report types and view the fields and objects that are included.

There are more updates in this section. Learn about all the Report and Dashboard updates in the Salesforce Release Notes.

Salesforce Flow

For those of us building flows, Salesforce is really treating us these last few releases. Major upgrades coming your way!

You can now use formulas as your flow entry condition requirements in Flow builder. Configure the Start element in a record-triggered flow in the Set Entry Conditions section:

You can also now Add Section Headers to Flow Screens to guide your users to the most important items on a screen improving the user experience on the other end.

Flow Testing and Debugging is also getting some well-deserved attention: You can now test a record-triggered flow before you activate it to quickly verify its expected results and identify flow run-time failures. If you create flows, you should check out this beta feature: to create a test, open a record-triggered flow, and click View Tests (Beta), and then click Create. To create a test from a debug run, click Convert to Test.

See all the changes to Flow Builder and Flow Testing and Debugging in the Release Notes.

Generally available and with some nice enhancements is now the Migrate to Flow tool which helps you convert a workflow rule to a flow. If you're still using workflow rules, remember that Salesforce is moving and encouraging us toward flows. If you're not familiar with Flows, a good place to start is this Salesforce Admins blog that shows you 5 New Videos to Help You Understand Tricky Flow Concepts and the Build Flows with Flow Builder Trail.

Permissions

Last but not least: some upgrades to permissions will help you manage users easily. With Summer '22 , you can create a permission set and permission set group assignments with an expiration date, so you don't have to remember to take away permissions for temporary assignments. Use transaction security policies to monitor the assignment of critical user permissions by creating transaction security policies.

I hope this gives you a good overview of what to expect in the upcoming release! check out the Salesforce Summer ’22 Release Notes for a thorough view of all the new features. Let us know what your favorite new feature is!
